Announcing Daddy's Dreams ... Where Fabrics Become Works of Heart! Join Me For An Experience of a Lifetime!

Please mark your calendars for 07/30/2010 and 07/31/2010!
Date Changed to 08/13/2010 and 08/14/2010 due to Homecoming at PGUMC on 08/01/2010!

I am proud to announce an amazing project I am undertaking in memory of my Dad, who passed away in September after a long brave battle with AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) at the age of 61.

The project will be called “Daddy’s Dreams” and I will be working with my Stampin’ Up! downline, the Bella B Stampers, and my church, Pleasant Grove UMC.  The project will be 2-fold:
  • We will provide "rag quilts" that have been handcrafted specifically for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer – to “blanket them with love” during their ordeal.
  • We will be making hats for women/girls who are enduring chemo – blinged out with fabric flowers, of course!
Over the past few weeks I have been soliciting donations from the fabric community and have been receiving an overwhelmingly touching response.  I have received donations so far from Robert Kaufman Fabrics, The Minky Boutique, and Jennifer Paganelli (please look for photos and blog posts on the donations from The Minky Boutique and Jennifer Paganelli over the weekend!) and have been humbled by their generosity.

Please join me for a special weekend!

There will be something for everybody’s skill level, whether it is cutting, ironing, running a Big Shot, stacking fabrics sewing on the machine, or hand assembling flowers.  Hoping for an awesome experience!!!

CUTTING SESSION:
Friday, 07/30/2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Date changed to 08/13/2010 due to Homecoming at PGUMC on 08/01/2010!
Pleasant Grove UMC Fellowship Hall
(LaGrange, GA - convenient to I-185)
  • NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!  NON-SEWING TASKS AVAILABLE!!
  • We will be ironing fabric, cutting it into strips, and running it through the Big Shot to cut into either quilting squares or flowers for the hats.
STAMPIN' UP! CATALOG CELEBRATION and DADDY'S DREAMS CUTTING AND SEWING SESSION:
Saturday, 07/31/2010, from 11:00 a.m. - until we drop!!
Date changed to 08/14/2010 due to Homecoming at PGUMC on 08/01/2010!
Pleasant Grove UMC Fellowship Hall and Quilting Room
(LaGrange, GA - convenient to I-185)
  • NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!  NON-SEWING TASKS AVAILABLE!!
  • We will have FREE make and takes available utilizing products from the new Stampin' Up! Catalog.
  • We will be ironing fabric, cutting it into strips, and running it through the Big Shot to cut into either quilting squares or flowers for the hats.
  • We will have fabric flowers to assemble - super simple needle and thread project.
  • We will have a separate room set up for all individuals who wish to bring their sewing machines and assist with "rag quilt" construction.
EQUIPMENT/VOLUNTEER REQUESTS:
We are in need of several items to help make this a fast-moving and successful process.  Please see below for a list of items that you might bring (or loan us if you can't attend) to assist!
  • Cutting pads and rotary blades to cut fabric into strips
  • Long quilting rulers and/or yard sticks to guide cutting of strips
  • Big Shot machines with Scallop Square Dies and Fancy Folds Dies – and any floral dies you might have
  • Big Shot clear cutting pads
  • Sewing machines with thread
  • Iron and Ironing board
  • Shoebox size clear "rubbermaid" containers to sort/store/tote fabrics by color
  • New "bucket" hats (or other) to decorate with the fabric flowers
  • Large decorative buttons
  • Needles and thread
We also need access (not necessarily same day) to an industrial washer/dryer to use – hopefully for free?? We will need to launder the quilts when they are completed to initiate the "ragging" process.

REFRESHMENTS:
  • We will have ice cold drinks for sale.  The money raised will be used to purchase materials (hats to adorn, thread, needles) that we have not had donated.
  • We will set up a "pot luck" table, so please feel free to bring your favorite snack food or dessert to share (or your own sack lunch).
I know I packed in a ton of information above, but I wanted to cover it all for you!  I hope you will join me on this journey as we bless these deserving patients... and we too are blessed by giving of ourselves as we live the Statement of the Heart....

Please CONTACT ME if you have any questions.  Have a blessed day!

WOW - Robert Kaufman Fabrics - Thank You!

I arrived home from my cousin's wedding in North Carolina this weekend and found that a box full of quilting fabric had been delivered to my doorstep.  It was a HUGE box stuffed to the rim with an assortment of yummy fabrics donated by Robert Kaufman Fabrics for the purpose of creating quilts for people/children diagnosed with cancer.  What a wonderful and generous donation!

For those of you who may not know, my Dad died in September after a brave battle with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) at the age of 61.  Since that time we have struggled to come to terms with his loss and the hole it has left in our family.  Initially, I had planned to work with Project Linus, but have since decided to place my focus locally in our community and will be working with my Stampin' Up!® downline, the Bella B Stampers, and my church, Pleasant Grove UMC.  What a wonderful way to live the Statement of the Heart!

My children will be attending a special camp in LaGrange, Georgia at the end of the month.  Camp Dogwood is sponsored by West Georgia Hospice and their goal is to assist in the healing process of children after they have suffered the loss of a loved one.  This box full of goodies arrived at the perfect time!  I plan to contact someone with West Georgia Hospice and introduce the idea to them, as well as begin to work out details.  I want to make this blanket/quilt project a success here in the West Georgia area.

I should probably have waited until I had all the details to present to you before I posted, but I was so very excited and grateful to Robert Kaufman Fabrics that I couldn't keep it a "secret!"  Be looking for more information regarding a "cutting session," where we will come in and cut fabric.  It will be simple and won't require any sewing experience at all.  We simply would run the fabric through the Big Shot using the Scallop Square Die and stack the cut squares for a future sewing session!

Some other items we will be needing will include:
  • Full size cotton sheets (any color - to be used as inexpensive backing fabric - please only newly-purchased sheets because of health concerns for those with weakened immune systems)
  • Assorted fabrics in cotton, flannel, and fleece
  • Big Shots, Scallop Square Dies, and cutting pads (need people to bring and/or loan for cutting sessions)
  • Rotary cutters and mats (need people to bring and/or loan for cutting sessions)
  • Sewing machines and thread (need people to bring for sewing sessions)
  • Clear shoebox size "rubbermaid" containers to store cut fabric in
Long Distance and still want to help?
Feel free to mail me supplies/fabric that you would like to part with (pre-cut Scallop Square Die fabric squares would also be fabulous!!).  Contact me for more information on where to send donations!

Once again, a big thanks to Robert Kaufman Fabrics for giving me the blessing of a jumping off point for this project!  I look forward to sharing more specific date information in the near future!

Have a blessed day!

Big Shot Fabric Project TUTORIAL - Felt Flower Clip

What a FUN project this was! A super easy (and much loved by the recipient) flower hair clip! I created it in literally MINUTES!

Accessories:
  • Felt sheets in pink and brown
  • Package of Sweet Pea Stitched Felt
  • Big Shot
  • Big Shot Circles No. 2 die
  • Hot glue gun (I used a low heat model)
  • Hair clip hardware (I used small, but could use larger if preferred)

Instructions:

  1. Cut your 8-1/2" x 11" felt sheets into 4 equal pieces.
  2. Take 2 pieces of brown and 2 pieces of pink felt, layer them, and run them through the Big Shot using the Circles No. 2 die.
  3. Layer cut pieces, alternating colors, while gluing just in the center with the hot glue gun. I liked the look of the circles being a little "not straight" when layering, but you could easily line them up without doing that.
  4. Top with a shape from the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt using hot glue gun.
  5. Hot glue a leaf from the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt to the undersurface.
  6. Glue entire creation to the hair clip hardware.

Makes 2 sets of 2 Felt Flower Clips!!!

Don't forget that Sale-A-Bration is a GREAT TIME to become a proud Big Shot owner! Click HERE for all the details on Sale-A-Bration options that you don't want to miss!!

Please let me know if I can be of assistance! Thanks for stopping by and have a happy day!
