SHARE MORE MONDAY - Show Me Your Favorite Repurposing Project Link Party/Blog Hop!

What a fantastic response to last week's Bella B Designs Inspire Me With YOUR Creative Space Link Party/Blog Hop!!  Thanks to all of you who participated and/or visited to see what everyone had to offer.  I made it halfway through the entries before we had to go out of town for the weekend, so I promise to catch up on the rest of your entries this week!

Since the link party/blog hop was so well received last week, I am excited to announce that I will be turning it into a regular feature called SHARE MORE MONDAY

Since one of my 2011 Goals is to SPEND LESS, I am always on the lookout for ways to make old things "new!"  I was inspired by a great repurposing project that my friend, Phyllis Shepherd, showed on her blog.  This week I would like to see YOUR favorite repurposing project - it can be anything from paper crafts to furniture!

Here are the rules:
  • Please link directly to your POST, NOT your blog or your own link party.
  • Please place a link (provided when you enter your post in the "hop") at the bottom of your post.  This will link your post to the Show Me Your Favorite Repurposing Project Link Party/Blog Hop! so that other's can enjoy the inspiration!
  • Please leave comments for the authors of the blogs you visit so you can help the participants feel the love!
  • Use of Stampin' Up!® product would be great, but not required!

SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO GET DETAILS ON BLOG HOP AND GET THE CODE FOR YOUR SITE!!
Please note that I reserve the right to remove those links that connect to anything other than a post on this topic and you MUST link back to the blog hop.

LET THE PARTY BEGIN!

ADDENDUM:  If you are having a problem linking your post back to the Blog Hop/Link Party, it is super easy to do in Blogger and Typepad.  Here are the instructions:  Go to Blogger/Typepad (whatever you use) and select "edit" your post, then click on HTML right above where you enter your text, that will bring up the HTML code for your post.  Scroll all the way to the bottom and enter the Linky code (see below).  Then select "publish post" and it should show the blog hop on your post after that.

COPY AND PASTE THIS ENTIRE CODE (IN BLUE) BELOW:

SHARE MORE CHALLENGE - Got Coupons? Help Chemo/Cancer Patients!

Coupon Clippers.... Donate your Boost coupons to help patients enduring chemo!  It costs you nothing but a little time to snip and a postage stamp!

I just read a post by A Frugal Chick regarding donating unused Boost coupons from the Sunday paper to an organization that distributes them to people in need.  There are benefits to drinking Boost while going through chemotherapy and, because of the extreme weight loss often experienced, doctors recommend drinking Boost to help combat the sides effects.  You can read all about it, as well as find out where to mail them at her post HERE

Please check your paper from this past Sunday.  There was apparently a $3.00 coupon for Boost, which I understand would knock the price down to approximately $3.00 to $4.00 to purchase.

I would love to do something with this locally.  If any of you know of somewhere that could utilize these coupons, please leave a comment and I will see about setting up a distribution system for Boost, Ensure, and Pedialyte via Daddy's Dreams!

2011 Goals - LOVE MORE - Goal #1

Goal #1 - LOVE MORE

We have counted down my top 5 goals to make 2011 the best year ever and today I will share with you goal #1.  I saved this one for last because it is, by far, the most important... to LOVE MORE.

In order to move forward in 2011, I have to look at where I have come from.  I have spent the past 1-1/2 years struggling through the darkest period in my life.  It all started in August of 2009 when I watched my young, strong, handsome husband endure emergency back surgery for a shattered disk, knowing that his life would never be the same again.  Just days later, I watched my Dad, the first man I ever loved, pass away from leukemia, a disease that had ravaged his body, but never his spirit.  This was followed a couple of weeks later by watching my 88-year-old grandmother (my Dad's mom) pass away from, quite literally, a broken heart.  By the end of a 6-week period of time, my life had changed forever.

As I look back on the months that followed, I honestly couldn't tell you how I muddled through.  I remember telling myself, "1 foot in front of the other," and thought I had done pretty well... but that wasn't really the case.  I was a hot mess.  I can see that now coming out the "other side."  A series of events was set into motion with a domino effect that tested me in every possible way.

My goal of "LOVE MORE" in 2011 is really the foundation of all the other goals that I have set:
  • Love myself:  Healthy living!
  • Love my family:  Focus on family activities and FUN!
  • Love my home:  Time to organize and turn this house into a home!
  • Love my faith:  Be more faithful in reading the Word and embrace my purpose.
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me."   -Erma Bombeck

Welcome 2011!
May It Be A BLESSED Year For All!

2011 Goals - DREAM MORE - Goal #2

Goal #2 - DREAM MORE

Any of you who have been following me for a while know how important Daddy's Dreams is to me.  In 2011, my goal #2 is to DREAM more... more quilts, more hats, and more cards for patients with leukemia and other cancers.

The first thing I will be doing is posting updates on contributions and volunteer sessions over the past couple of months.  I have had issues with my laptop and also a series of illnesses in my family that have kept me from posting this information in a more timely manner.  SORRY!  Be looking for that information soon!

In the meantime, please mark your calendars for
01/22/2011 from to at Pleasant Grove UMC for the next Daddy's Dreams Volunteer Session and 01/23/2011 at at Pleasant Grove UMC for the blessing of the "Works of Heart" from the volunteer session.  Volunteering a little of your time can mean so much to those in need of support during a very difficult time.

Daddy’s Dreams was founded in memory of my Dad, Dennis Carter, who passed away at the age of 61 from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) in September 2009 after a long and brave battle with the disease. Daddy's Dreams volunteers and supporters are dedicated to being a source of strength for patients with "Works of Heart," "Happy Hats," and "Cards for Cancer Patients."  Please consider volunteering your time or resources - or just sending in a few cards or crochet/knit caps.  100% of the items donated go directly to making the difficult process of treatment just a little easier for those who need it.

WORKS OF HEART
The main focus of Daddy’s Dreams is to provide hand-crafted "rag" quilts for patients who have been diagnosed with leukemia and other cancers to “wrap them in love” during their ordeal with chemotherapy.  Quilts are donated to adults and children on a needs basis in the local community and beyond.  Daddy's Dreams is also currently accepting handmade quilts from individuals who wish to donate them.  These quilts will be blessed alongside the ones created in volunteer sessions and will be distributed in the same manner.  Please, due to concerns about low immune status of recipients, new material/quilts only.

HAPPY HATS
The Daddy's Dreams "Happy Hats" campaign is on ongoing project.  We are in need of hand-knitted/crocheted hat donations for male and female patients in adult and children sizes!  Female hats will be adorned by Daddy's Dreams volunteers with hand-crafted fabric flowers.  Adult female hats will be donated to a wonderful organization, "Hope for a Day,"  children's hats will be donated to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, and men's hats will go to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

CARDS FOR CANCER PATIENTS:
The Daddy's Dreams "Cards for Cancer Patients" campaign is also an ongoing project.  We are in need of donations of completed hand-stamped cards suitable for all occasions.  Include your own message of hope, love, encouragement, etc. inside the card.  No need to send envelopes.  I will place all cards in a translucent envelope before delivering to the respective facilities for easy distribution to those in need of a little "paper hug."

For full details and additional information, please visit the Daddy's Dreams online information gateway.  The links listed in red there have tons of information, photos, and inspiring stories.  We are always looking for volunteers and donations to keep this project going!  Thanks for blessing us so that we may bless others!

2011 Goals - ORGANIZE MORE - Goal #3

Goal #3 - ORGANIZE MORE
When I decided to make goal #3 to organize more, there was NO question where I wanted (ummm... NEEDED) to start - my office!  I am going to let you peek inside the doors that are ALWAYS closed when I have company over... and for good reason!

Here is my desk area.  I am a medical transcriptionist, as well as a Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrator, so you will notice my transcribing equipment and my desktop computer.

My office is what was originally intended to be a dining room, which means there is NO STORAGE in this room.  Just walls and windows.

I have utilized lots of storage tubs and boxes to contain the contents of the room, but it is now overflowing into the floor.... and, quite honestly, the rest of the house!

Mountains of must-haves and no place to store them!  What is a girl to do?  Look for inspiration, of course!  As I mentioned yesterday, one of my goals is to spend less, so repurposing is a must!  I have a few good pieces - an old dresser that belonged to my grandparents and a couple of laminate shelves.  I also have a butcher block dining table that I would like to replace with something else eventually.  I stumbled upon Karen's blog and WOWZA her new sewing room is GORGEOUS!!!

Take a look at what Karen at Sew Many Ways has done with a space very similar to mine...

Karen painted old furniture black to bring all the pieces together.

Would you believe this was a set of 3 old laminate bookshelves??  A little moulding across the top tied them together and the flimsy backings were replaced with beadboard before painting.  Oh how I love beadboard!

This gorgeous piece of organizing used to be an old piece of teakwood furniture and the cute boxes on the middle shelves are made out of old cardboard water bottle holders and the ones on the top shelf are cereal boxes!  What a beautiful way to re-purpose!

Would you believe that the beautiful black cabinets/shelves mentioned above started life looking like these???  Visit SEW MANY WAYS for all of the details on how she brought this amazing room to life!
Karen, thanks for sharing!

Let me share with you my filing challenge... It is an old 2-drawer filing cabinet.  The bottom drawer is misaligned so it won't open and close properly and neither drawer will hold hanging folders because the inside mechanics have given up the ghost.  Needless to say, I don't file much!

Now, look at this pretty piece.  It was a toy box that my daughter used when she was itty-bitty.  Now that she is older, it is sitting in our foyer holding my Vermont Teddy Bears and a basket with the dog's leashes in it.  Not very exciting or useful.  Don't ask me what is inside.  I am afraid to look.

When I came across the following furniture repurposing, I knew I had to transform that toy box bench!  I have no idea who this photo belongs to.  I saved it in my inspiration folder on my desktop and neglected to record who the owner was.  If you know who it is, please let me know so that I can give proper credit!

Look at the filing system inside!!  So clever and useful!

I could paint it to match the other (soon to be) re-purposed pieces in my office.  Still pondering a color, but I know it will have to be a Stampin' Up!® color!  I am looking to also add a cushion to the top so that my constant companion will have a place to hang out... meet Minnie!

Well, there you have it!  My office and my aspirations for organization in 2011.  I will be on the lookout for awesome junky old furniture to paint and transform into storage and work surfaces like Karen did and I can't wait to try out the toy box renovation for my filing solution!  Wessie, if you are reading this, get ready to teach me how to use power tools!

Have a Blessed Day!!
