Daddy's Dreams Sessions Announced! Upcoming Volunteer Opportunites!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

When: 09/25/2010 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
What: Daddy's Dreams Fabric Cutting Session
Where: Quilting Room at Pleasant Grove UMC

Details:  We will be cutting fabrics into 5" strips and then running through the Big Shot to create scallop squares for quilts, as well as flower shapes for adorning hats for girls/women who have suffered hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. SUPER easy for ANY skill level - even if you don't sew or craft! The more we cut, the more we can sew at the next session - and the more individuals will benefit.  Click on the Daddy's Dreams Tab above for more information and photos, as well as other ways to help!

When: 10/09/2010 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
What: Daddy's Dreams Sewing Session
Where: Quilting Room and Talley Hall at Pleasant Grove UMC

Details:  We will be sewing pre-cut scallop squares into "rag" quilts, as well as assembling flowers and hats to be donated to women/girls suffering hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. We need lots of volunteers to bring their own sewing machines to sew these squares together (simple straight stitch is all that is required!!) and found that it is best to work in pairs with an additional (non-sewing) person snipping threads and stacking squares as we go along. Any individuals who wish to come and cut more fabrics into strips and run them through the Big Shot are also welcome! The more we cut and sew, the more people will benefit from our creations!  Click on the Daddy's Dreams Tab above for more information and photos, as well as other ways to help!

Daddy's Dreams - Session One Creations

Sunday morning, 08/15/2010, the creations from Session One of Daddy's Dreams were blessed by the entire congregation of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, including visiting volunteers who came just for the occasion.  It was our prayer that the blankets provide comfort and healing to those who receive them and that they know that they are loved.

Sailboat "Rag" Quilt, Garden-themed "Rag" Quilt, and Fireworks "Rag" Quilt.  The 2 quilts on the outside had been "tossed" in the dryer, but not laundered yet.  Once laundered, all of the exposed edges will be frayed, soft, and fluffy - and oh so cuddly!!!

Sailboat Quilt.

Garden Themed Quilt.

Fireworks Quilt.

My sister, Carrie Nuckolls, made these crocheted lovelies.

Look for future posts outlining where these Daddy's Dreams creations find a new home.  They are already promised and I am very excited!!  Please join us for the next session, 10/09/2010!!  I would really love to double the volunteers and double the number of creations to share with those who need comfort.

Again, a HUGE thanks to everyone who played any part at all in making this possible.  Have a blessed day!

Daddy's Dreams - Session One!

WHAT A WEEKEND!!!  Daddy's Dreams was a complete success thanks to donations from generous individuals and companies, as well as a village of volunteers comprised of family, dear friends, church members, and total (used to be) strangers.

The photos below are from our Saturday Cutting and Sewing Session at Pleasant Grove UMC.  FYI - You won't see pictured Janis Moore because she came in the night before to help during the Cutting Session.

Nell Oates and Jamie Hay (AKA Hay and Oates).

Sande Lowis - Our Big Shot Diva!

Pat Weaver and granddaughter, Aspen.

It was made evident to an exhausted daughter of mine, Kelsie Burke, that the donation from The Minky Boutique is not only soft blanketed goodness, but also REALLY comfortable.

Aspen helped iron and cut fabric.

Patricia Crawford, our official photographer!!

Yes, it's me - frizzy-headed from the rain/humidity (and perpetual oscillating fan blowing the back of my very grateful head) and make-up long gone from itchy eyes, but in my smile I hope you can see that I am thankful - thankful because I was blessed by an amazing group of women (and a couple of handsome guys) who helped me fulfill my dream... Daddy's Dreams!  I love each and every one of you for who you are and what you helped to accomplish this weekend.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Who's ready for session two???  We have pre-cut fabrics for a couple of quilts and lots more fabric to work with.  Would love to double the number of volunteers next time and bless twice as many people in need of comfort.  Be looking for the announcement on the next date!  I will announce it here on my website/blog.

Look for my next post!!  It will contain photos of the quilts we created!
